Church Farmhouse Museum’s garden
has the only maze open to the public in North London. A turf maze, marked
out in bricks in the grass, it was paid for by a bequest from the late
Colette Fontaine and a generous gift from the Friends of the Museum.
Since it opened in 2006, the maze has proved very popular with children
and adults alike, and it is now much more visible, thanks to the addition
of an elegant stone bird- bath, on a plinth, at its centre. The bird-
bath was donated by Rose Roots, wife of the Museum’s Curator,
in memory of her mother, Mary Dunning, who loved the Museum garden and
the many different varieties of birds who visit it.
Now, too, you can sit in comfort and look
at the maze, and the pond adjoining it, thanks to friends and fans of
the Hendon-based rock guitarist and singer Tony Dangerfield, who died
in 2007. They have donated a handsome bench in memory of Tony, with
the inscription: ‘Sit By Me’. Please come to our charming
garden and do so.
